About Bowen Therapy

Bowen therapy is gentle, subtle, relaxing and very effective.

Bowen therapy is safe to use on anyone from the newborn to the elderly, including the infirm. It is effective in treating a wide range of conditions from sports injuries to organic conditions.

The treatment consists of gentle finger or thumb rolling 'moves'. These 'moves' are applied over muscles, tendons and skin. Some 'moves' are so light that they are hardly felt. The 'moves' are performed in a set pattern and varied according to the condition being treated and the effect required.

Amazingly, the less done in a session - the better the result. "Less is more" rather like in homeopathy. As Ossie Rentsch, the director of BOWTECH says - "Trust the technique and be amazed".

In between sets of 'moves' the therapist leaves the patient to relax. The rest periods give the patient time to respond to the 'moves'. The 'moves' trigger an instant reaction within the body. People often describe experiencing "wave-like or soothing feelings, melting away the pains".

Long-standing pains are often relieved instantly. Patients often describe their experiences as, "amazing, wonderful, heavenly and magical".

Usually, 45 minutes are reserved for each treatment, allowing for a case history and examination. Subsequent sessions last 30-45 minutes, depending on the patient's needs.

The treatment is performed through light clothing, however, skin contact for certain 'moves' is advisable. Wearing jeans during treatment is discouraged. The treatment is adapted to suit all ages and to the degree of discomfort.
